About The Spaniel House

Where is The Spaniel House?

The Spaniel House is our family home in the Oaklands area of Welwyn, Hertfordshire, next to Mardley Woods and near Welwyn Garden City. To keep our home private, we share the address when we arrange your meet and greet.

Is The Spaniel House licensed, and how many dogs do you look after?

Yes. We’re licensed by Welwyn Hatfield Council with a five-star rating, licence number WK151310/2025. Our licence allows up to five dogs at a time including our two resident spaniels, Rosie and Tilly, so every dog gets plenty of attention.

Who will look after my dog?

I will. I’m Katrina, and I’ve been caring for dogs, young and old, for more than 30 years. Your dog stays in our home as part of the family, alongside our own spaniels, Rosie and Tilly.

Do you only look after spaniels?

No. We’re named after our own spaniels, but we welcome other breeds too. What matters is that your dog is happy and relaxed in a family home with other dogs, which we check together at the meet and greet.

Prices and booking

How much do dog day care and home boarding cost?

Day care is £35 a day and home boarding is £45 a night. Each additional dog is £30 for day care or £40 for boarding. In school holidays every dog is £35 a day or £45 a night. Over the Christmas holidays it’s £50 per dog, and £100 per dog on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Puppy care starts from £50. See all 2026 prices and holiday dates.

What are your day care hours?

Day care runs from 07:45 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, and from 09:30 to 18:00 at weekends. If you need a little longer, extra hours are £3 an hour.

How do I book?

Fill in the short enquiry form or call me on 07947 255233. We always meet before accepting a new dog, so the next step is a meet and greet. Afterwards, I’ll send you a personal link to our registration form. Places are limited, so get in touch early for school holidays and Christmas.

Do you do a trial before a holiday stay?

Yes. New dogs start with a trial day, so we can check they’re relaxed and safe in our home and with the other dogs. Before a longer stay, such as a week’s holiday, we also ask for a successful overnight trial. For a short weekend stay, the first night can sometimes act as the trial.

Your dog’s stay

What vaccinations does my dog need?

Your dog needs up-to-date vaccinations against parvovirus, distemper, hepatitis and leptospirosis, plus kennel cough (Bordetella bronchiseptica or canine parainfluenza). Primary courses must be finished at least two weeks before your dog’s first stay, using UK-licensed vaccines; homeopathic vaccination isn’t accepted. We also ask for up-to-date flea and tick treatment with a UK-licensed product. Read our registration requirements.

Do you look after puppies?

Yes, we love having puppies to stay, and we adjust walks to suit little legs. For puppies still being house trained, we offer a puppy care plan from £50. Puppies need to have finished their primary vaccinations at least two weeks before their first stay.

What will my dog’s day look like?

Weekdays start with a 45-minute to one-hour walk in Sherrardspark Wood or Mardley Woods, with longer walks and trips to Panshanger Park at weekends. In between, your dog has our secure garden, with a paddling pool in summer and a log burner in winter. Boarding dogs sleep where they do at home, on a bed or in a crate, and keep to their usual routine.

Can you look after older or nervous dogs, or dogs with medical needs?

Often, yes. Tell us about your dog at the meet and greet and we’ll agree an individual care plan, including adjusted walks for older dogs or dogs recovering from injury. Every dog is different, so we’ll always be honest about whether our home is the right fit.
